Anthony Poon

Anthony Poon graduated in 2021 from the Royal Academy of Music where he studied for his Bachelor of Music and Master of Arts degrees, majoring in violin with Jack Liebeck on an entrance scholarship. Prior to this, he studied with Alex Laing at Uppingham School.

As a soloist, Anthony performed the first movement of Lalo’s ‘‘Symphonie Espagnole’’ with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra for a charity concert in March 2017. In June 2019 he was invited as a soloist to perform Brahms Violin Concerto with the Stamford Chamber Orchestra. At the beginning of the year he was awarded 2nd prize in the Eastbourne Symphony Orchestra Young Soloist Competition.

Anthony has been awarded Honorable Mention in the Musicus Society’s 2021 Young Artist Audition and Winner of the Tunnell Trust’s Music Club Award Scheme. He will be performing a series of concerts in Hong Kong with the Musicus Society and Scotland respectively.

During his time at the Academy, Anthony appeared frequently with the Academy Symphony Orchestra as Concertmaster and has appeared regularly in the 2019-21 season with the London Symphony Orchestra as part of the LSO String Experience
Scheme. In 2021 he performed regularly with the English Touring Opera, Sinfonia Cymru and Orpheus Sinfonia. He has been regularly invited to perform with the Manchester Camerata and Welsh National Opera as Co-Leader and Principal Second Violin respectively.

Anthony has received scholarships to help with his studies, including funding from Help Musicians UK (2019-2021) and the Jardine Matheson Scholarship from ABRSM.
